The Padres and Cardinals benches and bullpens spilled onto the field in a confrontation after Will Venable allegedly hit Albert Pujols with an elbow or shoulder or something as he tagged him out. It's hard to tell who's telling the truth:

Pujols: "A play like that you don't try to run people over. Last night he jammed my wrist a little bit, and then tonight he tried to throw an elbow. That's pretty stupid"

Venable: "It was one of those plays where I have to go along my path to the bag. It's what I was taught to do, just run hard to the bag."

By the 7th inning San Diego was down 7-1 to the Diamondbacks and it looked like their 9 game winning streak was going to die out in the desert. Both the Padres manager Bud Black and catcher Nick Hundley had been tossed in the bottom of the 6th. And then came the 8th when the Padres mounted a truly impressive 5 run comeback attempt. Another run in the 9th tied the game 7-7 and then Chase Headley hit a 2 run HR in the 10th to steal back the 9-7 victory. In addition to extending their winning streak to 10 games (the longest win streak for the franchise since 1999), San Diego also snapped an 11 game road losing streak. They're now above .500 (23-22) for the first time this season.
