The Jayhawks led the Cornhuskers heading to the fourth quarter but Nebraska scored 18 in the fourth to win by 31-17. It was the fifth straight loss for once 5-0 Kansas.

It was Jayhawk against Jayhawk as a five-year feud between the football and basketball teams escalated into two on-campus fights over a 24-hour period. In a parking lot Tuesday night an altercation began between basketball guard Tyshawn Taylor and football cornerback Anthony Davis over a girl in which Taylor dislocated his finger and will be out of the game for a month. A fight broke out again between players Wednesday morning on a popular spot on campus when Marcus or Markieff Morris, threw a football player down the stairs.
