"At this point, the injury has the potential for him missing this next season and could be career threatening," team physician Tom Clanton said, according to the Houston Chronicle. "One of the things we are trying to get is a consensus opinion on that, to make certain there is no option we are overlooking that would provide an earlier return or would be an option for treatment that he would prefer rather than doing additional surgery."

Houston's big star put in a great effort in game 1 with 28 points, 10 rebounds and was proud of his team's 100-92 win in LA. The Rockets now head home up 1-0 in their Western semifinal series vs the Lakers.

The Rockets got their Western conference semifinal series off to a strong start, beating the Lakers in game 1 100-92. Yao Ming knocked knees with Kobe and had to take a minute off the floor but he returned to put in a strong finish, leading Houston with 28 points. Ron Artest added another 21 and sophomore PG Aaron Brooks contributed 19. A sickly Kobe Bryant (he missed practice with a sore throat) did his best, leading his team with 32 points, but couldn't quite get the home win.
